Residents of Zamani Estate, located just behind the popular Abacha Road, in Karu LGC, have called on security agencies to as a matter of urgency rescue them from incessant armed robbery attacks, subjecting them to nightmarish experiences in the area.
In particular, they made a passionate appeal to the Police and Department of State Security Services (DSS) to help them come out of the trauma from such incidents that had seemingly become a reoccurring menace in the estate.
This appeal came in the wake of early Sunday’s robbery attack by suspected 9-man gang that invaded a section of the Estate and at gunpoint robbed occupants of a building consisting of four flats; whose valuable were taken from them.
Chairman, Zamani Easte Residents Association, Mr. Sani Philips, who described as shocking that within t 2 hours duration of the robbery incident that started at about 2 to 3 am, there was no response from the security agencies, even though they (people) tried to reach out to them, but there was no immediate response.
Philips disclosed that people were left with trauma, beaten with one victim stabbed in the hand, and a whole lot of things happened during the unfortunate latest robbery incident in the community.
He, however, disclosed that after some security personnel from the Nigeria Police in Abacha road, sprang into action, three suspects were arrested, and some valuables such as phones, laptops and some other items, that were stolen from the victims have been recovered.
He added that they are hopeful that the Police will go the long haul in ensuring that all other suspects, who are currently at large will be apprehended.
“Robbery here has been become a menace. It is not just robbery, even murder. I think it was last year somebody was shot dead on the same street where this latest robbery incident took place.
“You know in cases of armed robbery, most situations, it is the trauma that the victims go through, but I prayed that the almighty God will them the grace to be strong, and move on with their lives.
“For us, we use this opportunity to call on security agencies to come to our rescue here in Zamani Estate, to help us ensure that such type of robbery do not take place again. We were told that these are youth armed with guns.
“This is armed robbery attack, it is not burglary or something that people just bring into your house. And at level of such scale of criminality, I think it’s the law enforcement agency like the Police and Department of State Security Service that can help us out of such kind of circumstances”, the Chairman stressed.
Continuing, he said: “But, as a community we are doing our best as we are coming with measures to support the Police to protect lives and property in the area. We are coming up with a lot of strategies now.
“Going forward, I have directed that all streets gates must be maned.And the community will engage the services of security Vigilante, and then strengthen the Nigeria Police to do what they need to do.”
