St.Michael’s emerge overall winners of Destiny College Kaduna Inter-Schools Athletics Competition

St. Michael College, Kaduna have emerged overall winners of the first Destiny College Inter-schools athletics competition held at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium, Kaduna on Saturday.

The school got a total medals of three gold, four silver and three bronze medals, while the host institution, Destiny College, Malali, Kaduna finished as first runners-up with three gold and four sliver medals.

The third spot was clinched by Standard Academy, Kaduna  with one gold  medal.

The events competed for include; 100 meters Boys and Girls; 200 meters and 4×400 meters Boys and Girls.

Speaking earlier, Director of Studies, Destiny College, Mr. Akintunde Busayo commended the participating schools for their spirit of sportsmanship, adding that  every participant was a winner.

He promised that the second edition of the competition will include more tracks and field events.

Mr. Busayo Akintude also added that sports is a tool for the development of mind and body that will impact positively on the society.

According to him, education is not only confined to the four walls of the classroom, but also on the tracks and field where talents are discovered.

He added that Destiny College was not only hosting the tournament to win but contributing to the search of athletes at the grassroots  who will win medals for the country both in national and international competitions.

In her own remarks, the Head Coach of Destiny College Mrs Princess Ojeagbase said that the college has produced some young sportsmen for the state and they are now champions in their chosen fields.

Speaking earlier, the North West Zonal Secretary of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) Alhaji Abdulraheem Aodu commended Destiny College for the vision to host the inter-schools competition saying many talents in the country are not discovered at early stage and that makes them useless.

Kaduna State SWAN Chairman Mr. Isaiah Benjamin said SWAN will corporate with Destiny College in its move to discover young athletes that will make the country proud in future.

Sixteen Secondary schools in Kaduna State participated in the competition which is mainly an athletic event.
