June 12: Student Loan Not A scam – Tinubu’s Aide

The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Student Engagement, Hon. Sunday Adedayo Asefon on Monday June 10, 2024 said that  the bill of the student loan is not a “scam” and “audio”. 

Asefon made the assertion at the National Students Leadership and Mentorship Summit organised by the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) at the PTI Conference Centre, Effurun in Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State.

Asefon noted that over seventy thousand (70,000) Nigerian students have applied for the loan.

He assured that in no distant time,  the loan will be paid to beneficiaries. 

Asefon also said state institutions will benefit from the loan  stressing that, polytechnics, monotechnics, colleges of education and other higher institutions will benefit from the student loan. 

Asefon who was also the representative of the Minister For Youth Development, Hon. Ayo Akinwande, added that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is doing everything possible to for students in the Country to have access to quality and better education amongst others.

In a keynote address, National President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Comrade Lucky Emonefe said it’s essential for the students to understand their roles in sustaining democracy and nation building as future leaders.

“We must actively participate in the political process,hold our leaders accountable, advocate for policies that benefit the Nigerian people.” He said.

According to Emonefe, “This Summit provides us with an opportunity to come together, exchange ideas, and strategize on how we can contribute to the development of our Country. 

“We must strive for a Nigeria that is free from corruption, injustice, and inequality. Our goal should be to create a Nigeria that offers equal opportunities to all citizens, regardless of their background.

“As leaders of Nigerian students, we must remain committed to representing the interests of our members effectively.”

Thereafter, Comrade Emonefe conferred the General/Chief Officer, GCO of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, Mele Kyari with “NANS outstanding personality award of the Year” for his contribution to the development and supports of students across the Country. 

In his acceptance speech, the representative of NNPCL, Dapo Abiodun appreciated the leadership of NANS for the honour done him. “Thank you very much.”

The Executive Director, Business Development, NEXIM Bank, Hon. Stella Okotete was also presented with an award for her contributions to NANS development. Dr. Paddy Iyamo received the award on her behalf and thanked the leadership for the award. He said,”the award will spur her to do more for the student body in the Country.”
