Kaduna Fish Farmers Excited Over Partnership With Olam

It was an exciting atmosphere over the weekend in Kaduna as officials from Olam Farm flagged off a training session for Kaduna Fish Farmers as part of a partnership between the two parties.
The farmers were trained on basic principles of fish rearing, feeding, harvesting and marketing.
In his remarks North West Area Sales Manager of Olam Farm, James Sha,  underscored the importance of an enduring partnership between the agricultural products firm and fish farmers, stressing the company’s desire to assist members of the association to remain in business by bringing to their knowledge modern practices in fish farming.
He said maximizing profit was not the priority of the fish and chicken feed producing firm, but rather the company aimed to assist its customers to grow their businesses in an ethical manner for the general good of the society.
Mr. Sha, said the company has been able to through research, improve its products cost-effectiveness, maximum yield and rich nutritional contents for the benefit of farmers, vendors and the final consumers.
He charged the fish farmers to adapt  method that would improve productivity and sustain their business in long term so they won’t be swayed away by market forces and high cost of production.
While delivering his lecture, Technical Manager of Olam, Abdurrahman Suleiman harped on the need for using ideal temperature and volume of water for optimum performance of fish from fingerling, juvenile and jumbo stages of growth.
On his part, Chairman of kaduna Fish Farmers Association (KAFFA) Dr. Ejike Ude, commended Olam Farm for the kind gesture, saying it would go a long way in improving technical knowledge of the members and instil passion for the vocation among citizens, especially young unemployed graduates.
He called on the Olam officials to make make the training section quarterly to enable members of KAFFA get more ideas on to improve more in the business.
In his address, patron of the association Engr. Adams Tinat urged fish farmers to make maximum use of knowledge gained for improved productivity and sustainable profit.
He called on state Government and other stakeholders to emulate Olam farm in assisting the informal sector to grow.
A beneficiary, Joseph Haruna described the training session as an eye opener, saying he would not hesitate to apply the method of harvesting four times in a year in contrast to the previous practise of selling his products after every six months.
Highpoint of the training session was presentation of high breed feed newly produced by the company sample of which was distributed to participants for identification and trial.
