While the meeting of the Northern States Governors was going on at the Sir Kashim Ibrahim House, Kaduna, the National President, Northern Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Comrade Isa Abubakar led his members on a protest to the venue of the meeting, over what they described as lipservice without actions from the 19 governors.
“There has been this kind of meetings severally, but no impact especially in securing lives and property of citizens.
“There’s not going to be an end to insecurity in the north, as long as almajeri child roams the street. There’s a need for the governors to holistically look at the almajeri system of education, and device a means of impacting Islamic knowledge on the young ones.
“The Forum need to engage the people of Southern Kaduna as well as the Fulani herdsmen in dialogue to see how they can bring a lasting solution in that area.
“We must also learn to tolerate each other irrespective of our religion. Northern Nigeria has no tolerance for each other and this is a fact. Religious clerics must create more awareness on tolerance.
“People making incisive statements over the issue in Southern Kaduna should please put a stop to it. Nigeria or Kaduna state is not a lawless country. We have laws so people should not take up arms to protect themselves, rather find means of dialoguing between each other so that we can find a lasting solution to the problem.
On the socio-economic state of the north, Comrade Abubakar said; “Investors are not interested investing in the north due to insecurity. Youth of the region are jobless, there are lots of misconduct amongst them. Yet these governors keep telling them stories that there’s going to be light at the end of the tunnel from their activities.
“Investors can only come to a peaceful environment, and without peace there can never be development, so peace is a priority.
“These same governors travel out on exotic SUV Jeeps, while numbers of tractors are less on our farms. No fertilizers for local farmers to use. Foods in the region now are very expensive, this is totally unacceptable. People can’t afford to buy kerosene, firewood is not accessible, gas is not available.
“Workers are not being paid as at when due. Teachers are not well taken care of, but these governors go abroad investing in Dubai, Paris and so on but refusing to build the north. The youth are saying they’re not going to stomach it again. And as we approach 2019 general elections, we would also find means to change these crop of governors as we did the last ones. We will vehemently keep on condemning the bad attitude of these governors. They use the youth while not doing what is expected of them,” Comrade Abubakar thundered.
