Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, CON has provided additional dialysis machines and related consumables to the Gombe State Specialist Hospital in a bid to reduce the morbidity and mortality rates associated with acute and chronic renal failure, conditions that often require regular dialysis.
The Commissioner of Health, Dr. Habu Dahiru, who disclosed this, stated that the Governor’s decision to bolster the dialysis facilities came in response to numerous complaints from patients who previously had to travel to neighboring states for dialysis treatment.
He noted that the new machines and enhanced medical support are expected to provide much-needed relief and convenience to these patients.
“This gesture is part of a broader effort by the Gombe State Government to upgrade healthcare services and infrastructure in order to ensure that residents have access to quality medical care within the state. His Excellency’s goal always is to provide the best possible healthcare services to the citizens, and this is a significant step in that direction.”
The addition of the new dialysis machines, he said, will greatly benefit patients suffering from kidney-related ailments, reducing the strain on existing facilities and improve the overall health outcomes in Gombe State.
According to Dr. Dahiru, to ensure the effective operation of the new dialysis units, the Gombe State Government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Federal Teaching Hospital (FTH) Gombe to bring in additional manpower, including consultant nephrologists and biomedical engineers, to support the smooth functioning of the dialysis unit.
Dr. Dahiru highlighted that the integration of expertise from the FTH would not only improve the quality of care but also ensure the sustainability of the dialysis services.
